From fundraising to purchase much-needed equipment for the Omokoroa Fire Brigade, to installing new plants at Omokoroa Point School, our rotary club projects are varied and diverse. Throughout everything that we do, our focus remains the same – “Service To Others”.

The Omokoroa Health Shuttle is one of Omokoroa Rotary Clubs most important community initiatives. Launched on 1 December 2025, the shuttle provides weekday morning and afternoon transport for residents of Omokoroa, Plummers Point, and Pahoia who need to attend medical appointments at Tauranga and Grace Hospitals, or visit specialists, dental surgeons, and imaging providers.

The service carries up to three passengers per trip — with one support person permitted if space allows — and asks just a $30 donation per trip, funded in part by community contributions and sponsors.
Residents can book by calling 020 431 0051 before 4 pm the day prior. The shuttle was first reported in Lizard News in December 2025 as another step forward for the growing Omokoroa community.
The Men’s Cancer Survivor Exercise Programme — or MCS — is a weekly exercise class specifically designed for male cancer survivors and men currently undergoing cancer treatment. Launched in late July 2025 and modelled on a highly successful programme that has been running in Katikati for some time, the MCS programme is run in partnership with Common Ground Gym in the Omokoroa Village.

In late August 2025, the programme received both a formal endorsement and substantial grant funding from the Western Bay of Plenty District Council’s Community Matching Fund 2025, which helps subsidise the cost of participation to just $5 per class. Classes run every Wednesday at 10:30 am under the guidance of instructor Laura Van Rossum, who assesses each participant individually and tailors a programme to their specific needs, with a focus on building strength, balance, and overall well-being.
The programme is as much about social connection and camaraderie as it is about physical recovery — participants often continue the conversation over coffee at a nearby café after class.

Omokoroa Rotary Club’s second annual Midwinter Fundraiser was its most ambitious event project to date — a full Midwinter Christmas Party held on Friday 21 June 2024, with dinner, a cash bar, live music from Toe Jam, and a silent auction of locally donated prizes. The evening was supported by gold sponsor Barfoot & Thompson, along with Tremains and Omokoroa Country Estate. Guests were treated to a delicious buffet from Coffee Club, a welcome drink, and wine on the table. A lively MC kept the evening moving, and the Deputy Fire Chief gave a compelling address on the work of the local Fire Brigade. Those who dressed up for the occasion added considerably to the spirit of the night.
Proceeds went to a state-of-the-art CPR training mannequin for the Omokoroa First Responders.
The First Responders are an extraordinary group of volunteers who train weekly and attend medical emergencies at all hours before St John Ambulance arrives.
In 2025, Rotary club’s annual Midwinter fundraising project took on a Mexican flavour — the Midwinter Fiesta, held at the Omokoroa Sports Pavilion on the evening of 13 June.
Guests arrived in Fiesta theme dress, competing for Best Dressed and Best Table prizes, and were welcomed with a lively evening of food, entertainment, and community spirit. Dinner was again provided by Kelly from Coffee Club, with a cash bar offering a full range of drinks — including margaritas.
The programme included raffles, a silent auction, a Fire Brigade demonstration, a Fire Engine on site, and an address from the Deputy Fire Chief. The entertainment came from The Shy & Retiring Company, who are fast becoming a firm club favourite. Gold sponsor Barfoot & Thompson provided generous backing, alongside numerous local business supporters.
Proceeds from the evening went directly to the Omokoroa Volunteer Fire Brigade.
The event raised over $13,000 towards a new Jaws of Life tool for the Omokoroa Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Omokoroa Rotary have supported the Breast Cancer Foundation since our founding year in 2023. Lunches have been held in beautiful homes in the Western Bay of Plenty with a growing number of attendees each year.
Bringing local residents together to raise funds for breast cancer
With support from generous local businesses and attendees the sum raised to ensure the ongoing support for people with breast cancer, research and education has increased each year.
Attendees have enjoyed delicious food, drinks, music and a silent auction and have enjoyed themselves so much they return each year.
Footprints for Our Future was a week-long Bay of Plenty-wide environmental initiative that brought together all ten local Rotary clubs — including the Rotary Club of Omokoroa.
This was a coordinated programme of conservation action and community education.
Running from 8 to 14 September 2025, the week centred on protecting and restoring the region’s coastal and waterway environments.
The week also featured the ‘Healing Our Waters’ public talk held at the University of Waikato’s Tauranga campus on the evening of Wednesday 10 September, where three eminent speakers addressed the science, challenges, and solutions for restoring our waterways. The event brought together other activities across the Bay including sand dune planting, Uretara River planting, and pest plant clearing.
The Rotary Club of Omokoroa has contributed to native planting efforts in Kopurererua Valley — known locally as K Valley — one of Tauranga’s most significant green corridors. These planting days form part of a broader restoration effort to re-establish native vegetation along the valley floor and waterway margins, improving habitat for native birds and improving water quality.
Planting days are a popular and hands-on way for members and volunteers to contribute directly to the local environment.
The club has contributed to garden restoration work at Omokoroa Point School, enhancing the outdoor environment for students and the wider school community.
The main garden project was completed in partnership with the Omokoroa Lions Club, while the club independently undertook restoration of a second garden bed.
These projects reflect the club’s commitment to improving community spaces, particularly those that benefit young people.
Each year, the Rotary Club of Omokoroa participates in the popular Godwit Festival — a community celebration of the bar-tailed godwit, one of the world’s most remarkable migratory birds, which uses the Omokoroa and Tauranga Harbour foreshore as a key staging area.
As part of the club’s involvement, members also organise and participate in beach cleanups, removing debris and litter from the foreshore.
We help to protect the habitat these extraordinary birds depend on during their time in New Zealand.
In 2024, the Rotary Club of Omokoroa joined forces with the Rotary Club of Tauranga Te Papa to host a combined charity golf tournament at the Omokoroa Golf Club.
The event raised funds for the Think and Be Me programme — a youth mental health initiative — bringing together Rotarians and community members for a day of sport and fundraising.
Our efforts support a valuable cause that affects many young people and families in the Bay of Plenty.
For three consecutive years, the Rotary Club of Omokoroa has collaborated with the Rotary Club of Tauranga on their popular annual Book Fair, held each January and February.
A much-loved fixture on the Tauranga community calendar, the Book Fair gives second hand books a new lease of life while raising significant funds for Rotary projects.
Our members contribute volunteer time and energy to help run what is one of the larger collaborative Rotary events in the region.
The Rotary Club of Omokoroa has twice participated in the Up the Garden Path Garden Ramble, a biennial event run in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Katikati.
The Garden Ramble opens a selection of beautiful private and community gardens to the public for a day of exploration, inspiration, and fundraising. It is a popular community event that showcases the horticultural talent of the Katikati and wider Western Bay area.
Our club’s involvement has helped grow both the event’s reach and its fundraising success.
The Rotary Club of Omokoroa supports the Rotary Youth Programme of Enrichment (RYPEN) — a residential weekend programme for teenagers aged 14–17 that focuses on personal development, leadership, self-confidence, and teamwork.
RYPEN gives young people from our community the opportunity to step outside their comfort zone, build new friendships, and develop the skills and mindset to become active contributors to their communities.
The club’s support helps ensure that young people from Omokoroa and the surrounding area can access this valuable programme.
In a practical initiative that combines environmental responsibility with community benefit, the Rotary Club of Omokoroa collects donated laptops, refurbishes them to working condition, and redistributes them to individuals and organisations in need — both within New Zealand and overseas.
At a time when digital access is increasingly essential for education, employment, and communication, this project helps bridge the technology gap for people who might otherwise go without.
It is a hands-on, tangible way the club gives technology a second life and a new purpose.
