Omokoroa Rotary Club was founded by the Rotary Club Of Katikati. Katikati member Peter MacKay could see that with the growing population there was an opportunity to start a new club and so the satellite club was brought into existence. In the beginning there were only 3 members but with the energy and enthusiasm for community projects evident, more locals joined the small team. It’s thanks to all the members contributions that the Rotary Club of Omokoroa received its fully independent charter in 2026 making it New Zealand’s first new Rotary Club in over 10 years.
We’re welcoming new members to join our club and get involved in making Omokoroa one of the best places to live in New Zealand for everyone.
The Rotary Club of Omokoroa is a vibrant, can-do group of community-minded individuals based on the beautiful Omokoroa Peninsula. Founded in 2023 by our President Bronwyn Carter we became a fully independent club in 2026 after two very busy and productive years. Our members and friends come from diverse backgrounds — banking, retail, nursing, marketing, hospitality, accounting and rail safety. We share a genuine passion for making Omokoroa and the world a better place by addressing the issues that matter.
Fundraising for local causes and volunteering to improve our local environment
It’s not all hard work – we also love to have a lot of fun together. We run regular social events bringing members and their partners or friends together to relax and socialise. If you’re new to Omokoroa, Rotary is the perfect way to meet new people and create a life with more purpose and meaningful connections.
Omokoroa Rotary Club are part of Rotary International, a global network of more than 1.2 million volunteers united by the motto “Service Above Self.”
Rotary International was founded in Chicago in 1905 and has grown into one of the world’s largest and most respected humanitarian organisations, with 45,000 clubs in over 200 countries. New Zealand’s first clubs were chartered in Wellington and Auckland in 1921.
Rotary’s work is guided by four avenues of service: Club, Community, Vocational, and International. Its most celebrated global achievement is the near-eradication of polio — reducing cases worldwide by 99.9% since 1979 through the PolioPlus programme, protecting more than 3 billion children in 122 countries.
Our fornightly Rotary Club meetings are informal, relaxed and friendly and usually followed by a good chat over coffee. A fun club tradition has developed where members quietly race to shout the next round of coffees! Contrary to popular belief Omokoroa Rotary Club are much more relaxed about member’s attendance records and acknowledge that many of our members travel throughout the year and have family and health obligations to accommodate.
Our Rotary meetings are always fun and feature engaging guest speakers, project updates and presentations on Rotary’s work locally and globally.
Day & time: 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month at 8am
Venue: Omokoroa Boat Club (bar side)
Duration: Approximately 1 to 1.5 hours
Summer break: Brief break over Christmas and New Year

Omokoroa Rotary Club is focused on addressing the issues that matter
to the people of Omokoroa and our surrounding communities.
Our club is usually approached by a variety of local clubs, groups, businesses and residents who have a need but don’t have the resources to meet that need. Our membership team have cleaned and weeded local beaches and reserves, planted new gardens at the local school, refurbished donated laptops, collected food for the local Foodbank, raised funds for the fire brigade, first responders and youth mental health. We’ve also introduced new social events and entertainment to Omokoroa with our annual Midwinter events at The Pavilion. Who can forget our legendary Mexican night that raised $13,000 for Omokoroa Fire Brigade!
Below are the four key activities that we are involved in regularly.
Volunteering with Rotary Omokoroa means getting your hands dirty — sometimes literally. From beach cleanups around the peninsula and planting natives in Kopurererua Valley, to restoring school gardens, and refurbishing donated laptops, our members show up and get things done.
We also volunteer time to our Health Shuttle, the Men's Cancer Survivor Exercise Programme, the Tauranga Book Fair, and youth programmes like RYPEN.
Since 2023, the Rotary Club of Omokoroa has raised significant funds for our local first responders and Fire Brigade through our popular annual Midwinter events — a Christmas Party in 2024 and a Mexican Fiesta in 2025 — generating over $13,000 in a single evening. We have also partnered with other Bay of Plenty Rotary clubs on joint fundraisers for youth mental health, raising money for the Think and Be Me programme through a combined golf tournament at the Omokoroa Golf Club.
Omokoroa is growing fast — and so is the need for genuine community connection. The Rotary Club of Omokoroa brings together people from all walks of life: long-time locals and newer arrivals, working professionals and retirees. Fortnightly meetings, shared projects, and a warm, informal culture mean that joining Rotary is one of the most natural ways to put down roots and become part of the fabric of this community.
Rotary in Omokoroa is as much about friendship as it is about service. We meet fortnightly over coffee at the Omokoroa Boat Club — meetings that regularly spill into relaxed conversation long after the formal agenda wraps up.
Throughout the year we host BBQs, end-of-year celebrations, and club dinners, often with a potluck food theme which can become competitive!
